I have only recently begun group lessons with Ashton and Anne Marie. They are both lovely and encouraging teachers. Every move or new technique has been thoroughly explained, demonstrated, and practiced. The time in class was so refreshing to me as a new widow. I enjoyed the kindness and friendship of these wonderful teachers. EMcD - Newport News, VA
I joined “The Circle” in Feb. 2007 at Dance Therapy Studio when I was looking for an activity that allowed me to spend more time with my fiancée. I am a full-time student, work part-time, and most of my free time goes to studying. Taking the group class “Salsa Rueda” at DTS is very enjoyable, enlightening, and I find myself eager to come back week after week to learn a new dance steps. Not only does this dance give me and my fiancée time to dance together with a group of fun people, but it also helps with social dancing anywhere. Saturday’s with DTS is my stress relief therapy for the week! Chris G. – Richmond, VA

I wanted to learn ballroom dancing. I felt the strictly ballroom crowd was daunting. Then, I went to a Latin Dance party where most of the current students for Dance Therapy was present. I was warmly welcomed and started taking lessons the next week. I have thank Ashton and Anne Marie and others who were patient and focused on me getting it right. I enjoy dancing and know that I was taught well. Darren H. - Richmond, VA
I began taking the Salsa Rueda class with Ashton back in July of 2006, when I was looking for something that would challenge me and, at the same time, allow for personal growth. For me, I knew what the challenges were that I needed to overcome in order to grow as a person; self confidence, comfort with my body, and self expression. Although it took some time and lots of encouragement from Ashton and Anne-Marie, I can honestly say that the group class has played a significant role in the progression of my continued personal growth. I have lost over 30 pounds over the course of one year, thanks to group and private dance lessons! As I began to see the weight come off, I became more comfortable with myself as a dancer and my level of confidence headed on an upward trend. As a licensed therapist myself, I recognize the need for balance in my life and value the therapeutic benefits that dance offers. There is not a week that goes by where I don't look forward to my group dance therapy with Ashton and my friends. Baramon K. - Richmond, VA
My experience with Dance Therapy Studio has been great! I began taking classes in 2006 when I wanted to learn some basic salsa steps for social dancing. Once the basic steps were drilled in me, I wanted to go further and take a group class like the “Salsa Rueda”. With lots of encouragement and patience from Ashton the owner of DTS I was dancing in the circle in no time! His knowledge, experience, and love for the dance make dancing in the circle very entertaining and enjoyable. He truly brings out the dancer in each of his students and works hard to make us look our best while dancing. Jenika S – Richmond, VA
I joined Dance Therapy Studio’s Argentine Tango group lessons in July 2007. This exquisite dance takes time and hard work to be able to pull off even passably, but it’s worth every minute. I didn’t even realize how much I was learning from Ashton and Anne-Marie until I attended a small milonga about a month ago, where I was able to dance with several more experienced leaders. To my delight I found I had no problem following any of them! Ashton is so careful to fully teach the fundamentals that every lesson stuck with me and flowed out on the dance floor. Dancing is such excellent therapy for every part of a person – mind, body, and soul. Carissa S. - Newport News, VA
When I began private lessons at Dance Therapy Studios in the Fall of 2007, I had just ended a significant relationship. While dancing, I could focus on myself again, feel comfortable in my own skin, and connect with other people that had a passion for movement and music. The lessons helped me graceful and increased my energy. I even found myself practicing the walking steps in the grocery store. Taryn S. – Richmond, VA |
